How to Play Ludo
Ludo is a popular family board game enjoyed by players of all ages. It is a fun and strategic game where players race to move all their tokens from their home area to the central finishing zone by rolling a six-sided dice. The game involves a blend of luck and tactics, making it entertaining and engaging for everyone.
Game Components
- 1 Ludo game board with four colored home areas and a central finishing zone
- 16 tokens (4 tokens per player in red, green, yellow, and blue)
- 1 six-sided dice
Number of Players: 2 to 4
Recommended Age: 6 years and up
Approximate Game Duration: 30-60 minutes
Board Setup

- Place the Ludo board flat on a surface.
- Each player selects a color and places their 4 tokens in their colored home area.
- Players decide the playing order by rolling the dice.
How to Play
Starting the Game

- Players take turns rolling the dice.
- A roll of 6 is required to bring a token out from the home area onto the starting square.
- Rolling a 6 grants an extra turn.
- If a player has multiple tokens on the board, they may choose which token to move based on the dice roll.
Moving Tokens
- Move tokens forward along the track according to the number rolled on the dice.
- Tokens move only one at a time, and must complete the full number of spaces on the dice.
- Tokens must enter the finishing zone with an exact dice roll.
Capturing Opponent Tokens
- If a token lands on a square occupied by an opponent’s token, the opponent’s token is sent back to their home area.
- This makes the game more competitive and adds strategic blocking.
Safe Zones and Blockades

- Safe zones on the board protect tokens from being captured.
- Creating a blockade by placing two tokens of the same color on a square can stall opponents but may limit your own movement options.
Winning the Game

The first player to successfully move all four tokens from their home area to the central finishing zone wins the game!
Strategy Tips
- Use safe zones to protect your tokens against captures.
- Balance advancing tokens quickly with keeping them safe from your opponents.
- Create blockades wisely to slow down other players.
- Take advantage of extra turns earned by rolling sixes to advance multiple tokens.
- Plan moves carefully to optimize your chances of winning.
