Sri Rama–Sita Pattabhishekam
Pattabhishekam means coronation or the ceremony of crowning a king. It is one of the happiest and most important events in the Ramayana. It marks the end of Lord Rama's 14-year exile and the beginning of his righteous rule over Ayodhya, known as Rama Rajya.
After defeating Ravana and rescuing Sita, Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya with Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman in the celestial Pushpaka Vimana. When Bharata heard that Rama was returning, he was overjoyed. For fourteen years, Bharata had ruled Ayodhya only as Rama's representative, placing Rama's sandals on the throne instead of sitting on it himself.
- The sages, including Sage Vashistha, performed sacred Vedic rituals
- Holy water collected from many sacred rivers was poured over Rama and Sita in a ritual known as Abhishekam
- Rama was crowned as the King of Ayodhya
- Sita was crowned as the Queen
- The people rejoiced, celebrating the return of righteousness and peace
